Early Times in Hereford Township

Albert (1868-1922) and his wife Sarah (Knetz, Seasholtz) Frey (1878-1933) spread loose hay on top of the wagon to stabilize the load. Their daughter Amanda (1863-1927) raked the hay into piles and the hired man, John Hottel (1860-1928) pitched it onto the wagon. The horses wore leather fly nets over their backs to discourage troublesome horseflies. The Freys loaded hay near Pine Tree Road on the farm owned previously by George Frey (1820-1894).
