When A. G. Kriebel started a butcher business, he built an icehouse to store ice for refrigeration in warm weather. Double-frame walls in the tall structure were packed with sawdust insulation to keep ice from melting. Entrance into the ice-storage area was approached on the ladder permanently fixed to the wall. The building’s lower stone portion was used for refrigeration.
