Home butchering occurred when colder temperatures provided natural refrigeration for shot-term meat storage. When David G. Treichler butchered four pigs, he hired a custom butcher to help. The people under the overshoot were his son Harry S. (1881-1948) on the left; butcher Daniel Schueck; his son Newton E. (1891-1957); his son Harry’s wife, Cora (1878-1915); David G. (1854-1914), and his wife, Maria (1860-1916).
